The Goldilocks Dilemma - Striking The Right Balance

Michael Asadoorian - Nov 29, 2024

Too much of a good thing can be bad, but so can too little. Whether it’s your finances, work-life harmony, or future goals, life is a constant balancing act. Let’s unpack the Goldilocks dilemma—finding the “just right” in everything that matters.

Work-Life Balance: Often Searched For, Never Attained

Working too hard can lead to burnout, missed family dinners, and that ever-present feeling of exhaustion. But dialing back too much? Bills don’t pay themselves, and success rarely shows up on your doorstep uninvited.

The key is setting boundaries and prioritizing tasks. Start by asking: What can I delegate or let go of? Can you schedule downtime as non-negotiable? Think of it as investing in yourself—because productivity thrives on a rested mind. It’s okay to say no sometimes and remember...balance is never achieved, we will constantly be searching for it and our definition of balance will change along the way.

Pro Tip: buy yourself a sand-timer (plenty on Amazon organized by timing, i.e. 5 mins, 10 mins, etc.)...and take a break with no distractions. When the sand timer is done, you can go back to work.

Money: Too Little or Too Much?

Let’s talk finances, where balance is the name of the game. On one end, living paycheck to paycheck is a stress-filled existence. It’s not just about affording what you want but having peace of mind knowing the unexpected won’t sink your ship.

On the flip side, having too much wealth without a clear plan can create its own issues—hoarding money out of fear, becoming disconnected from its purpose, or missing out on enjoying what you’ve earned (can't take it with you!). A sound financial plan isn’t just spreadsheets and savings goals; it’s a roadmap to living the life you envision.

What does balance look like? Setting aside a portion of your income for savings while still enjoying life today. Building an emergency fund. Planning for retirement. And maybe treating yourself to that concert or weekend getaway. After all, money is a tool, not a trophy.

Let’s Talk About It

Feeling the squeeze or paralyzed by abundance? You’re not alone. Talking to someone about your financial goals can clarify where you are and where you’re heading. Don't underestimate the power of a second opinion to put things into perspective or to help you move in the right direction.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” – Albert Einstein
Remember that equilibrium in all aspects of life is a constantly moving target.
