Beyond The Numbers - Mystery Trip Edition

How often do you let someone plan your life?

Michael recently went on a mystery trip with some university friends where the destination and daily agenda were kept secret – only 2 of the friends knew the details. But this wasn’t a random surprise; the people behind the plan knew the group well. They’d seen our idea of a good time. They knew we’d trade our regular day to day for mountain views and a healthy dose of nature.

So when we ended up golfing in the Rockies, playing cowboys at the Calgary Stampede, and rafting the Bow River—we weren’t shocked. We were understood. The experiences weren’t random; they were curated.

And honestly? It was one of the most enjoyable trips.

When the plan fits, you don’t miss the details

This is what happens when someone knows you well enough to plan with intention. The result isn’t a rigid schedule or an inflexible checklist—it’s something that feels natural, effortless, and aligned with what you value.

It made us think about how financial planning should work.

Not as a sterile spreadsheet or a set of rules imposed from the outside, but as a framework shaped by someone who’s taken the time to really understand you—your goals, your priorities, your version of “a good life.” When that kind of thoughtfulness goes into the plan, you don’t need to micromanage it. You just get to live it.

When the right person helps you build a plan, it doesn’t feel like surrender. It feels like clarity. And sometimes, the best surprise is realizing just how well the plan fits.
