When Your Flight Plan Goes Sideways

Michael Asadoorian - Sep 19, 2025

Here’s a fun stat: The average person spends 6 years of their life waiting — in lines, on hold, in traffic... and yes, for their flight to take off. Michael recently added to that statistic on a trip to Vancouver for the Investment Planning Counsel conference, and let’s just say... expectations hit a bit of turbulence.

He booked a flight that offered premium economy seating. The plan? Bid for an upgrade, stretch out, plug in my laptop, and squeeze in some study time for an upcoming exam. The reality? A day before departure, an email — surprise! The aircraft has changed and no longer includes premium seating. Alright, still workable, make do in economy and get some studying in.

But when he boarded, he quickly realized... this isn’t even a WestJet plane. It’s a Sunwing aircraft wearing a WestJet disguise (yes, the cabin branding was WestJet — the outside, unmistakably Sunwing). No media screen, no legroom, no plugs — but hey, they gave free WiFi! So, armed with 12% laptop battery and a dream, he pivoted: studied using his phone instead.

It would’ve been easy to grumble. After all, some passengers probably paid for that premium experience and ended up in the same sardine can. But here’s the truth: every day, we’re handed situations that don’t match our expectations. The question is, how do we respond?

In our business, we believe in delivering a consistent and intentional experience — one where you feel informed, comfortable, and never like you’re on a mismatched flight. If there’s ever a moment where we miss the mark, we genuinely want to hear about it. Your feedback helps us keep things flying smoothly.
